Escaped File Finder (EFF) is a Host 2.0 FileSection utility which makes a list of every file in a folder and compares it against a FileSection listing in that folder, then writes a report of all files which are not contained in the FileSection listing. This enables you to find “escaped” files -- uploads or other files which should have been deleted but weren’t. You can then either add them to your FileSection listings or delete them.
To use EFF, double-click the application and tell it where to write its “escapee” report (the default filename is “Escaped suspects”). It will then ask you to select a FileSection. When you have selected one, it will list all the file entries in the FileSection, then will list all the files contained in the folder or volume which contains the FileSection listing. This part goes slowly on a large hard disk, but this is an application which you should not have to use often. When all the files have been read, EFF subtracts all files which are properly listed in the FileSection, then writes the remaining files to its ongoing text report. It then prompts you for another FileSection to analyze. Click Cancel when you want to quit.
This is a bonus utility for registered Archie ’88 users, and is not to be uploaded to GEnie, distributed via bulletin boards, passed around or otherwise made available without my explicit permission.
